Body Hair Project Results!
So for you who enjoyed my Body Hair project I did about gender stereotypes and such, I got my results back for it today and got Upper Second Class Honours! ^_^ I was 4 marks off of a first! eeeee
One of my practise collages, I didn’t feel these were very successful as I only had a few images to work with! However I did quite like this one it was quite simple and the delicate tears of the images and the simple re arrangement of the picture I think worked quite well.
I’m now looking at collages and how to physically manipulate an image! I’m not using the original found images at the moment incase I don’t like what I’ve done and can’t reuse them! I’ve practised on a couple of prints but I’m not really sure if it is going too well! :/
Tutorial with Richard
I went into my tutorial today with some research and the photo album of found images I had. We both agreed my project was a little too broad but to focus on found images and how artists use them. Then he told me to recreate what was in the images….. No……. I really don’t want to. I MIGHT only because it could fill up a little of my sketch book but I am really not into that idea. Especially when he was saying not to do that the entire time we were talking about them and then said the opposite at the end….
Going to have to get up early and do some writing up and develop some more ideas!
Cyanotypes are a type of Photograph. You use chemicals to make any kind of paper UV light sensitive and you usually use objects or large negatives and in sunlight or a UV box you can expose it to create your images and wash it with water to stop them developing.
This is an image from a small photo album I bought at a car-boot sale. I was thinking of using these to start off my project and experiment with them
Thinking about selling Cyanotypes
I like shopping on etsy and their seems to be a good market for Cyanotypes! I really really miss doing them and want to carry them on, along with my body hair project! What do you think?
Photographs as Objects
For my Realism Project I have decided to go about looking at a photograph as a real physical object itself. We always look into the content of an image, if it is real or not, fact or fantasy but I wanted to look at it as something you can hold and manipulate. I want to look into 3 key areas for this project:
Mass Production of imagery and how artist uses this in their work
Found imagery and archival pictures
Physical manipulation and wear and tear which reminds us it is an object in itself.
I’m really looking forward to this because my last project was quite theory and subject based where this is more objective in a way!

Made from desiccated insect remains, dried plant roots, and other organic ephemera, Tessa Farmer’s tiny sculptures give a glimpse into the world of fairies. No story book land of Tinkerbells, Farmer’s Swarm envisions the purveyors of mischief and magic as an actual species, as animalistic and Darwinian as any other. Exchanging Victorian romanticism for the darker pragmatism of science, Farmer evidences her specimens as fearsome skeletal fiends, plausible “hell’s angels” of a microscopic apocalypse. Posed in dramatic battle formations, Farmer’s menagerie wages war against garden variety pests; each figure, painstakingly hand crafted and adorned with real insect wings, stands less than 1 cm tall.
For my next photography project of realism I have had a couple of idea for it, one being the construction of small scenes to question the realism of the image when taken. For example say if someone was to build an interior of a house and I took a somewhat blurred image of it, it could be considered a real photo of a real kitchen if you did not know it was constructed! I’m not sure if I wanted to go down this route yet but I think it would be quite interesting
So I shaved!
Thought I should say as my last project was based around body hair. I shaved my legs and arm pit hair on New Years Day, 3 months of no shaving! It was kinda weird, I missed my hair and my armpits were so so so itchy! but yeah, the hair is gone but I don’t really know when I’ll shave again, I’m not really fussed any more about it. I was in the shower today looking down at my legs, I used to give them a quick once over with a razor every time I was in the shower but I didn’t care anymore, why should I?
